Ever wonder...What if you are working in a prestigious condo, and you and your colleague's pensions were being stiffed by a Wall Street Swindler?
My take: An exhilarating adventure and film full of suspense in certain scenes and the plot is like the Modern Day Robin Hood,in this case, helping those whom Arthur Shaw defrauded to get their money back.
I have seen Ben Stiller acting as a Museum Security Guard in Night at the Museum, seen Murphy in Dr. Dolittle(gosh, that was ages!),but when two comedy titans, from 2 eras gets into the picture...It's a WOW!
Note: Ben Stiller is considered the recently surfaced Comedian since 1998 ,whereas Eddie Murphy started way too early since 1980 and with a image makeover in 1996 , hence my term "from 2 eras" should be right at the point of review.
Of course the film's best moments comes courtesy of Murphy's instructions, teaching the bunch of rookies- including the ringleader Josh Kovacs (Ben Stiller), the slow-witted Charlie (Casey Affleck), the jumpy Fitzhugh (Matthew Broderick) and the naïve Enrique (Michael Pena)- on what it takes to be a criminal, creating challenges for the rookies and of course how can we forget the other scene where Jamaican maid Odessa (Gabourey Sidibe) with some much-needed safe-cracking expertise, whose sexual advances at Murphy are equally hilarious.
As much as the film is played for laughs, the characters are mirrored in a way where they are reflected as the ones have similarly lost their jobs or even their life savings in the wake of the economic crisis over the past three years.Like Lester, who is about to retire in a months time as a veteran doorman of the Tower.
Being an about-to-retire doorman who is real excited and happy to meet his loved one,to him being depressed upon the realisation that Shaw, cheated out of his savings and about to commit suicide but in turn gave it as a catalyst that puts Josh's plans into motion.
And of course, all things ends well, afterall.
I am sure if you are a fan of Action flicks with a tinge of Comedy, you ought to check this out over the weekend.
Rating 4/5
